Hi everybody:
"Communications" is the problem????
There may indeed be some truth to that.... But not in the sense
that the spokesman (Repacholi) implies.....
How about this version: The REAL "communication problem" is a
consistent (governmental and industry) evasion and _dissembling_
of the facts ... an example of which we see below....
Cheerio.....

Possible health risk from mobile phones studied
By Rolf Soderlind
VIENNA, Austria (Reuters) - Scientists from 10 countries
said Thursday they had no evidence that mobile telephones can
cause cancer, but they called for speedy research into the
effects of electromagnetic fields (EMF) on the human body.
["...no evidence..." -- this from the researcher who has discovered some
of the most damning evidence.... guru]
A spokesman said after a conference in Vienna that poor
communication among researchers, governments, industry and the
public was partially to blame for anxiety about EMF sources such
as mobile telephones and power lines.
["...poor communications among researchers, governments, industry..."
Who does he think is controlling those communications???? The
victims??? guru]
The rapid increase in the use of mobile telephones has led
to scare stories in many countries about exposure to EMF causing
cancer and other diseases, especially in children.
``This is something that we hold as a high priority and we
want to find out if these electromagnetic fields do produce
cancer,'' Michael Repacholi, manager of the international EMF
project of the World Health Organization (WHO), said.
``Certainly there is concern among scientists that we would
like to know what is going on because something could be
happening that we did not know about before,'' he told a news
conference.
The EMF project, which was launched last year, is a
five-year $3.3 million program to study possible health hazards
stemming from exposure to an ever-increasing number of EMF
sources.
``To date, health research in this area has been largely ad
hoc and totally uncoordinated at the international level,''
Repacholi said.
``Under certain circumstances, EMF can be potentially
hazardous, and the risk to a person's health depends on the
level of exposure. Sometimes, the perceived risk from such an
exposure is much higher than it is in reality.''
In some countries, the installation of base stations for
mobile telephones has run into public opposition because of
concerns that the electromagnetic emissions might cause cancer.
In many countries, electrical companies have had to divert
high-voltage transmission lines around populated areas.
Concerns about EMF and health now cost the U.S. economy
alone around $1 billion annually, the WHO said.
[$1 billion is a bogus number. Someone should demand an independent
accounting.... guru]
``Obviously the mobile telephone industry is concerned that
the public is worried about health effects and they also
recognize that a lot of research still is needed. Europe is
actually getting a large proportion of its funding from industry
for the research program,'' Repacholi said.
``If there is any potential detriment, then they should be
the ones who support research to find this out,'' he added.
