Hi, Roy --

I actually missed seeing the segment, but what you've described of it is
consistent with what I'd expect. I've raised my hopes a time or two over
the years that ABC (especially) was about to "speak some truth" in regard
to natural medicine. After awhile, though, the pattern became clear and I
stopped watching.

What they do (consistently, reliably, predictably) is give the appearance
of being "true journalists, for truth and for the people", then leave
enough of a door open to leave the impression, "We took an honest look at
it, and there's no excitement here, folks; move along, move along -- when
in doubt, check with your standard-issue mainstream medical doctor, just
like always...."

It's interesting to note that what television does is have a de-fusing
effect on us, a dissipating effect, that goes like so: "Well, these folks
on my TV are talking about it and sounding reasonable enough...so I guess
there's nothing I really need to do about it; I can safely sit back and
let 'the experts' do it. If it's on my TV, why, everything must be under
control...."

I don't know if this is still accurate (especially I don't know how much
'weight' they're giving to email now), but there was a time when "we got a
landslide of viewer response!" meant "we received 6 letters!" It's
possible that if a few of us pulled out our old Royals and IBM Selectrics
and sent ABC some thoughts -on paper-, they'd notice.
