Subtle stuff, this. From some work I started about 30 years ago (!) I
found that there is a very low level ELF magnetic field 'noise' from
various underground natural features.
There are quite a lot of books on "dowsing" that deal with this from a
claimed ill-health point of view. How much is science, is difficult to
say. Try a "dowsing" search on the internet. There are usually local
dowsing groups in most countries. "Earth Radiation" by Kathe Bachler
is an interesting record of such things and cancers et al. 1976 in Germany,
1984 and 1989 in English (ISBN 0951415107), though it is probably long
out of print.
Knowledge of claimed ill-effects of earth fields goes back many hundreds,
if not thousands of years. In medieval times large country houses would
only be built after cattle had been penned in a field and watched for area
that they avoided when resting. The Chinese have their Geomancy thing, too.
For the more hard-headed of you, "Introduction to Geomagnetic Fields" by
Wallace H. Campbell, Cambridge University Press, 1997, ISBN 0 521 57193 6
is a seminal book and includes a graph of the natural magnetic field of
the Earth variations from 1000 sec periods (0.0001 Hz) to 10 kHz,
including showing the Schumann ionospheric resonances. It doesn't go into
any possible adverse health effects, but tells you lots about the Earth's
geomagnetic fields and their causes.
I suspect that these natural variations are amplified and maybe modulated
by underground features and water flows.
