Some of the papers I have heard or seen dealing with the stress responses of cells subjected to EMF suggest to me that, once an individual has become sensitized to EMF, there is something like an allergic response of the individual. I think this because the cellular response is to produce stress proteins, and this response is very similar to the response cells give when under siege by excessive heat or an unfavorable chemical environment. In both cases the production of stress proteins confers some protection on the cell from potentially lethal excessive heating or unfavorable PH levels. My speculation is that slow evolution of living things (both plant and animals) developed these protective responses of cells to adverse changes in their environment long before any organism experienced an environmental stress due to EMF (except, of course, for those individuals unfortunate enough to be subjected to lightning). Unfortunately, the cell's response to EMF may be an inappropriate response, in that it may cause more harm than protection. If this speculation should turn out to be correct, might it not be possible to use gene modification to develop a more appropriate response to EMF on the cellular level? Does this argument make sense to any of the rest of you? -- ---- Bill P. Curry, Ph.D. |Physics is fun.
