Roy,
Like Lief I am tired of all the non-'actual'-EMF emails cluttering my
in-tray, but I would appreciate you posting this one! Life is full of
contradictions, and the latter parts of this rather long email are EMF
related and confirm how dishonestly 'science' is presented.
We all know that MOST politicians and industrial leaders are there because
they want power and influence; this usually attracts and leads to
immorality / mis-use of power / great personal gain / etc.
Clinton's personal life is really his own and his family's affair. The sad
fact the he seduced many women over the years is actually common fault
among a great many politicians and powerful people throughout the
centuries. The fact that he was (as it reads to me) seduced by the scheming
Monica L (why else would she keep a semen soiled dress for so long ???) who
hoped she would eventually 'get him for herself after he stopped being
President', was Clinton getting what he deserved for all his previous
deceits. She may have even been put up to it by one of his enemies. She was
then dumped and decided to make her fame and fortune (with her forthcoming
book, etc,). He should have admitted to what had gone on when she first
made the accusations and said "this was wrong, but it is a personal matter"
and he certainly should NOT have lied, as he did, to the American
people..... HOWEVER ....
We are always being lied to by 'Governments'. In Britain we have had the
BSE crisis. It is clear that high government officials knew the likelihood
of a very real very major problem by the early 1990s. Even as late as the
Autumn (Fall) of 1995 when the CJD Surveillance Unit had six cases of new
variant human BSE and was suggesting in formal high-level memos that they
were probably linked to eating BSE animal products, the UK Prime Minister,
John Major, stood up in Parliament and said "there is no evidence that BSE
can be transmitted to humans". Lying b*%$*&!. It was only in March 1996
that the Government admitted that there was some evidence for a possible link.
Back in 1987 research veterinary scientists were warning the Ministry of
Agriculture, Food and Fisheries that there were potential dangers to
humans. The only person to speak out was Professor Richard Lacey, a
microbiologist at Leeds University. He was ridiculed in the media by
Government Ministers and Chief Scientists. Eventually he was forced to give
up his job at Leeds as pressure was put on the University to silence him or
suffer adverse future governmental funding. He was/is probably one of the
foremost UK scientists who have studied spongiform diseases in humans and
animals. However in 1988 when the UK Government set up the Southwood
Committee - packed with illustrious scientific and medical names - to
investigate BSE, Professor Lacey was not included/invited. In fact NOT ONE
of the people appointed to the committee had ever done any research into
spongiform diseases!!!
Two weeks ago the UK National Radiological Board (NRPB) hosted an
international three-day World Health Organisation EMF epidemiology metrics
meeting (i.e. just what and how should we be measuring EMFs in future EMF
epidemiology?). Despite the fact that I have a good track record in EMF
metrics in the UK (I played an important role in getting ELECTRIC fields
added to the large 5-year UK Childhood Cancer Study;
I was a co-author with Roger Coghill of one of the very few peer - reviewed
published [albeit a pilot one] studies which included electric field data
logging - we found a dose-response relationship;
I have EMF meters on commercial sale; I am Director of Powerwatch; and
various other reasons known to the authorities which I don't wish to list
here just now) - I was REFUSED invitation - even after appealing to Mike
Repacholi [who did write to say that I would now be included in mailings
for future meetings]. Neither did the USA EMF metrics 'guru' Bill Kaune
attend the meeting. Who did, you may well ask?.. ......
Well...representatives from Motorola, Vodaphone (a UK cellular phone
operator), a number of people from the UK electricity industry, at least
one person from EPRI, and many people who have never done ANY actual work
on EMF epidemiology, let alone measurement metrics(!) plus a FEW people who
have done actual measurements and have some practical knowledge of
who/what/why to measure signals. Now remember, please, that this was a
meeting not to discuss past published papers but to think out what and how
we need to measure EMF signals in future EMF related epidemiology (and
hence presumably use in cellular and live animal experiments). This
meeting was paid for by public money.
As your excellent EMF-L service has recently exposed - I can't find the
email just now - the quote from an attendee at a recent meeting (NIEHS?)
about "telling the public the dangers of EMFs that scientists have know
about for ages". Yet WHO are still holding planning meetings which exclude
key people who might help find the best way forward to find out the truth.
It seems that we just have to 'Beaver' away at it from the outside. The
truth will come out eventually. I am continually being saddened by the
apparent lack of integrity of those paid high salaries and fees from the
public purse to protect and lead us. Part of the problem is it seems that
many, if not most, of those who make their way up to practice science and
leadership in the most influential places seem to have lost any awareness
of the true spiritual nature of the universe and have replaced it with the
commercial 'gods' of making money, consumerism, power and getting a good
pension.

I gather that the UK Childhood Cancer Study, despite assurances given
earlier THIS year that it would be published in August or September this
year (1988) will now not be published before the middle of next year (1999)
at the earliest. I have been predicting this for two years now! I can
understand some of the reasons for the delay. The inexcusable thing is they
way they lie about the probable publication date to get the media off the
EMF issue - e.g. 'the media think': "lets wait until the study comes out
shortly before we run any EMF stories". The 'shortly date' then keeps moving.
Just like the WTIA's "The situation is in hand. We are going to spend $25
million on cell phone health effects research" defused many media stories
about possible cell-phone health hazards.

Many thanks, Alasdair, for that fine endorsement of (actually) why
I started EMF-L -- because I saw that the science was well ahead of
the political machinery in recognizing and reacting to the EMF hazard.
EMF-L regards its mission as: to overcome that political/industry BIAS
against the truth (which is also prostituting science itself) ... and
SOMEHOW to get the EMF 'truth' (in so far as we can identify it,
accurately and without the filter of government/industry dissembling)
out to the public......
That's why I say that the truthfullness (or UNtruthfullness) of our
government at ALL levels, including the RICH health bureaucracies,
IS IMPORTANT to the outcome of the EMF saga..... The Clinton-Lewinsky
affair provides us a good opportunity to make that point.....

Now, Alasdair, do you remember the Profumo scandal? If you do, you'll
recognize why I ask. It was remarkably close to the Lewinsky scandal
was it not? Except that it also had an element of foreign intrigue.
(A Soviet Naval Attache was "sharing" the same girl -- such a job as I
once had, Naval Attache that is....)
So, then, how did it come out? Profumo resigned, didn't he?! -- For the
good of the party and for the good of the country..... Clinton will
HAVE to do the same!
I am not advocating that. I am saying that is the way it has to come
out. Largely because the same political dynamics are at work now in the
U.S. as they were then in the U.K.
If Clinton is to stay, his fellow Democrats will have to carry the burden
of defending HIS arguments -- HIS case. Look at what that case is --
the burden he is asking his fellow party members to bear:
1. I (Clinton) didn't commit perjury. I have admitted that I lied to two
different courts (including a Grand Jury) in MANY statements, but I didn't
commit perjury....
2. I (Clinton) lied to the American people. And I wagged my finger at
them to make sure they understood. (And the TV stations have shown that
incident at least a thousand times. They will show it another 1000 times
in each congressional campaign.... If the "news" doesn't keep showing it,
the Republican candidates will.)
3. I (Clinton) engaged in a cover-up of my personal misconduct (just like
Nixon). I used U.S. government employees, including my cabinet members
and White House legal staff, to further my cover-up. (So did Nixon.)
My staff was used in the cover-up to repeat my lies, as legal help,
and generally to "P.R." my case to the American public (while attacking
and slandering the office of the special investigator) ... thereby some of
them have become (unwittingly?) accomplices to my actions. All of this
was done on government property and with the use of U.S. government
resources. (Note, at this point no other member of the President's
staff has been charged. But there are "reports" of expectations in a few
cases. It will probably depend upon how well they cooperate with the
Congress.)
4. My (Clinton) decisions and actions in all this showed poor judgment
(for a Chief of State), were reckless and, indeed, have damaged the office
of the Presidency and now restrict my ability to perform the duties of
that office.
That's probably not all that will surface, but it gives you a good idea
why it will be the _Democrats_ who will be the ones to force Bill Clinton
out of office ...not the Republicans! The Democrats will not be willing
to carry the burden of that defense. And the longer it gets strung out
... the more it hurts ... the Democrats....
In fact, the probability that is beginning to loom large on the horizon
... is that the Republicans (gaining political advantage by Clinton's
wounded condition) will be the ones who decide to string it out.....
Prolong the whole process of the impeachment or the resignation!!!
That will NOT be to their credit. It will hurt the country and I hope
they won't succumb to that temptation. The whole world should hope that
they do not try to do that.......Still????
