Hi, Roy --

I need to "add this to the pot" at this point, in case it proves to be a
missing piece of the puzzle that someone might need:

A few years ago I was sent information anonymously in the mail. It said
that back in the 1930's, it was discovered that natural Vitamin K was a
'key' nutrient, one that had a role in healing -many- ailments.

Subsequent to that discovery, pharmaceutical companies began offering
synthetic forms of Vitamin K (which commonly means, forms in which there's
a reverse spin to the molecule's components). Since then, virtually all
references to natural Vitamin K have disappeared from reference texts, and
what's being spoken of instead is the synthetic, man-made version.

The information I received asserted that natural Vitamin K is an important
healer -- while synthetic Vitamin K proves to be actively toxic,
specifically to kidney tissues.

Vitamin K, I note, is a nutrient that is intimately involved in regulating
or optimizing blood clotting. Folks who are given pharmaceutical "blood
thinners" like Coumadin are told to avoid Vitamin K, with an idea that the
presence of the vitamin will unbalance the effects of the Coumadin.

(Synthetic) Vitamin K is frequently given to newborns; one must wonder
what happens in the long run because of that, if the anonymous information
is true.

In connection with the "toxic to kidney tissues" idea, I must mention that
my mother's departure from the planet unfolded like so:

 - mysterious ailment (likely caused by antihypertensive drugs over
years);
 - entry into hospital, with abrupt removal of dietary supplements
including Vitamin E;
 - sudden stroke in hospital;
 - "heparinization" to prevent clotting and second stroke;
 - synthetic Vitamin K to offset over-heparinizing;
 - death by kidney failure.

Further, the anonymous information said -flax seed- is an excellent source
for natural Vitamin K. Flaxseed oil is noted as being an "electron-rich"
substance -- very active, and would rancidify quickly if exposed to light
or air.

It appears such substances are what rightly should be in our diets -- but
much of the science of "food preserving" is about destroying this
activeness, so foodstuffs will survive long stays on grocery shelves, etc.
The "hydrogenation" of fats and oils is specifically for this purpose --
and so most of the foods available to us lack this "electron-rich"
quality.

It's plausible, and has been hypothesized by many, that our current rates
of both cancer and "heart disease" originate with this one "food science"
practice. It seems likely that our dietary supplies of natural Vitamin K
are being affected along the way, though I don't know that for sure.
