......In my day in Washington, the Commerce Committee was the death of
all "environmental" causes.  Commerce, then chaired by a (Detroit)
Democrat, Mr. Dingell, was "owned" by 'industry' (particularly the auto 
industry) and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce....

I wonder if it is any different today.....???

Thanks, Mary, for the info.....  Make sure that they don't dodge the
Constitutional issues in H.R. 2834......

Here are the bills and the HR numbers-
By Mr. SANDERS: 
H.R. 2834. A bill to amend the Communications Act of 1934 to clarify State
and local authority to regulate the placement, construction, and
modification of broadcast transmission and telecommunications facilities,
and for other purposes; to the Committee on Commerce. 
By Mr. SANDERS: 
H.R. 2835. A bill to require an assessment of research on effects of radio
frequency emissions on human health; to the Committee on Commerce. 

[.......I say again:  this research must be established in such a way
as to assure an INDEPENDANT research organization -- independently
managed -- independant from both industry and the government (both have
conflict of interest -- against the public interest -- on the EMF
issue)......  Just like the independent effort that has just been
established on the Branch Davidians matter!!!!!  .....And for the same
reason.....  The government can not be trusted to put the PUBLIC interest
ahead of its own interests....guru...]

Due to TCA precedence, both bills have been referred to Commerce.  However,
I am pushing for the EMR bill to be heard by the Health and Environment
subcommittee.  The bills will not be referred to subcommittees until next
week.  Bernie is the original Sponsor in the House, and additional
cosponsors will be signed onto the bill in the next two weeks.  I will keep
you updated.  Please let me know if you need any additional information.
