WaveGuide Forum

You are Visitor number 105955 since 5-5-99

Welcome to the WaveGuide Forum. In it's current form, this is a single file with messages posted in chronological order, new ones appearing at the end.

The objective of this page is to provide a forum for an Open Discussion of EMF/EMR related topics, that is accessible to as diverse a range of perspectives as those held by the Visitors to WaveGuide.

I want to encourage an open dialog, but please observe the following rules:

  1. Messages MUST be related to Electromagnetic Energy in one form or another, and it's effect on biological systems, or policy relating to such. (No vacation updates or Hi Phred! messages, please.)

  2. Remember to argue your point of view, not with people. Be ANIMATED about your arguments, if you like, but please - be courteous to other visitors. This is an emotional issue for many people, please be sensitive to that.

  3. Try to avoid profanity; I am probably not going to edit out something added for emphasis in the heat of a damn argument ... but remember, children might be reading this ...

  4. If you have a lengthy response, diatribe, or something you can't easily fit into the Comments field, then send it by e-mail to: rbedard@cruzio.com. If it's on-subject, and of interest to others, I will put it on a separate page, and link to it from your message. It will also be formatted so it will be easier to read. Otherwise this file will get too large, too fast.

  5. Before posting a very general question, make sure the answer isn't somewhere where it will take less time for you to find, than for someone to answer, (like - it isn't answered already 3 messages higher on the page.)

If these rules are adhered to, I won't have to resort to editing the responses at all, and this will truly be a forum for the visitors, (that would be you.)

To post your own message at the end of this page, click here.

content: Why does`nt anyone do anything about the fact that nearly all of the research into EMF`s/EMR is funded by the very companies that have a vested interest in telling us they are safe or"not proven" The sillicone breast implant, asbestos and tobacco industries all lied for years(allegedly!)about the effects of their products(oh yes,Thalidomide too). The cellular phone industry is the biggest in the world.100 million Americans with mobiles by 2004 is a big customer base to lose. They(motorola, ericsson et al)should admit a cause for concern which could be marketed as genuine public concern, thereby retaining customer confidence and limiting potentially DISASTROUS concequences.!Sooner or later these companies shall be forced to comply,do it now! Just a footnote,my girlfriends father complained of a splitting headache after being on his mobile for an hour.

E-mail: ram@warwick.net
content: Hi, Just want to know of anyone has evidence of property values going down because of a cell/digital tower being placed by their home. We are in the process of fighting the local zoning board, on the location where a tower is being placed in our town. We hope this becomes part of our defense. It seems that the health risk issue is put to bed as the company that wishes to build the tower is so far within the law. The zoning board meeting is on April 2, 1998 so we don't have a lot of time to gather information. Also If your community has won any zoning board decisions we'd like to know how you did it. Thanks in advance, Rich

content: Be careful of Property-value considerations. Public officials are necessarily NUMB to concerns about property devaluation - nobody wants projects by their homes ... Our success was based on two findings our attorney asked for: 1) Improper use of land deeded to the City as a Park, 2) Improper claims and misrepresentations made by the cellular carrier in their application. Neither was serious enough "material enough", to throw the land-use permit out, but we were able to get a little bargaining power.

E-mail: fletcher@well.com
content: I am curious about whether using direct current (DC)for household appliances instead of the normal AC might usefully reduce my family's exposure to EMFs. We are in the planning stages of construction of a new "healthy" house, and we have the potential at our site to go "off grid" (using renewable solar or wind sources) for our power. We are thinking that if we do use AC, that we may be able to confine it to limited areas of the house (eg: not in the bedrooms). I suspect that the building code will require me to wire up AC circuits in every room whether or not I want to use them. Will I achieve my objective of minimizing EMF exposure if I just don't actually connect certain of those circuits (like the ones in the bedrooms) into the AC panel? I have read that the exposures arising from the way the system is grounded is more of a concern than the routing of the AC circuits themselves. Anyone have pointers to good information on this subject? Is this concern the same for a DC system?

rbedard: Recent epidemiological studies indicate that 2 milligauss is probably a reasonable threshold. There is no actual "exposure standard" in the US, though. Remember, because a mechanism of action has not yet been established, relying on magnetic field readings only may be giving you a false sense of security. For example, the pioneering epidemiological work done by Wortheimer and Leeper using "wiring codes" showed a very strong correlation, where studies done attempting to replicate their finding using actual magnetic field readings instead of wire codes, did not show as strong a correlation. In general, ALARA = As Low As Reasonably Achievable.

Becker, MD, in his CROSS CURRENTS (1990,,Jeremy Tarcher Inc., Los Angeles), mentions having applied an "inhomogeous DC field" to growing cancer cells, implanted in mice, for several weeks, using both horizontal and vertical fields. The vertical field seems to have had no effect, but there were "markedly abnormal" chromosomes in the cancer cells in the mice exposed to the horizontal field. The mice seemed to have come to no harm but the cancer cells died because they were unable to replicate. This was in 1978. Subject: Secret Cell-Phone EMR Figures published !

Hi all

Niels Kuster, a radiation expert at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (my alma mater), has developed a new measurement technique to measure cell-phone EMR towards the user's head. He recently measured 16 popular cell phone models, and published the results in the Swiss Consumer Report magazine (see table at end of this message). His method was developed for the industry, and is acknowledged by health authorities and industry.

Of course the publication of these figures wasn't welcomed by the industry, who omits EMR figures in their ads. The manufacturer of the least-polluting cell phone was even prevented from advertizing the fact that their cell phone emits 5 times lower EMR to the user's head than other cell phones.

A large tabloid paper then interviewed various 'celebrities' on the topic and on their cell phone usage, among them a beauty-queen who said that she doesn't worry about EMR and that she's using her cell phone often (after all, beauty-queens are known for their scientific knowledge..). It turned out later that she has a PR contract with a large cell phone manufacturer !

Kuster revealed that cell phone manufacturers invest more money in the design of a 'popular' *look* of cell phones than in a low-EMR design. The industry usually uses cheapo antennae that cost less than 1 dollar each, while spending millions for a 'nice-looking' product design. However, the cost / type of the antenna (and how it is built into the cell phone) is crucial for low EMR emission towards the user's head. But people rather buy 'nice-looking' cell phones, especially when their EMR isn't specified in the ads.......

BTW, the price of the various cell phone models is pretty uncorrelated with their EMR: Calculating a correlation between price and EMR yields a low r=-0.1831, and the link is anything but significant (p=0.5). In other words: There are cheap low-EMR cell phones (with 'ugly'-looking design but expensive and well-constructed antenna), and expensive high-EMR cell phones (with award-winning outer design but bad antenna).

Cheers, Chris

content: Does anybody know if those EMF protection cellular phone cases really work? I was going to purchase a cell phone then I heard about the harmfull radiation and was wondering if these "protector" cases really work.

rbedard: In a couple of experiments that I am aware of, output from various parts of the cell-phone were measured. In one, TEN TIMES more radiation came out of the EARPIECE, than the ANTENNA! Because of manufacturing costs, and probably because it would be bad Public Relations to admit there could be benefit from shielding, there is little to no shielding in the earpiece, mouthpiece, or behind the keypad, allowing a large amount of radiation to exit directly into your head, without ever having reached the antenna.

Measurements have shown phone shielding products do help alleviate this unwanted source of exposure, with varying degrees of success.

Subject: Ultrasound radiofrequncy safety
E-mail: holdener@erols.com
content: I am a childbirth educator and currently expecting mother, with a EE husband, and am trying to find information about the safety and biological effects of radiofrequncy in the range of 2.0 to 7.0 MHz, such as would be used in diagnostic ultrasound, doppler fetocopes and external electronic fetal monitoring equipment. My husband never had a concern with this until I read to him from a catalog that dopplers, the little hand-held probes that can pick up a fetal heart tone quite early in pregnancy have a frequency of about 2.5 MHz. Our midwife's is 3.0 MHz. He said that is not what he would consider ultrasound or sonar, but rather radio, and now he is mildly concerned enough to share my view that we want to avoid it from now on in our pregnancies. Anyway, any links or information sources anyone can direct me to so I can become a little more knowledgeable about this frequency range and it's effects would be appreciated.

rbedard: I agree. While 2.5 - 3 MHz is above our ability to hear, I am not sure how it can be classified as "sound." Actually the National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements, (NCRP) has a couple of bulletins that address this issue. I have not read them, but here are the abstracts, and a link to the NCRP site, where you can purchase them.

Protection in Nuclear Medicine and Ultrasound Diagnostic Procedures in Children
NCRP Report No. 73 presents information on two different imaging techniques used in the clinical examination of children. It provides information on the manner of conducting nuclear medicine studies in children to reduce the dose to these patients and those responsible for their care. The Report also addresses the application of ultrasound to children and discusses the factors that need to be considered to insure continued safe use in clinical practice. Included in the treatment of pediatric nuclear medicine are instrumentation, sedation, injection and handling techniques, dosimetric considerations, physiological considerations and radiation doses from radiopharmaceuticals. In treating pediatric diagnostic ultrasound, the report covers interaction of ultrasound with matter, ultrasound equipment, power levels from diagnostic ultrasound machines, biological effects, and the current status of ultrasound. An appendix includes tables of the mean dose per unit of cumulated activity.

Biological Effects of Ultrasound: Mechanisms and Clinical Implications (1983)
NCRP Report No. 74 covers the basic physics of ultrasound with an emphasis on medical ultrasound fields. Treated are physical mechanisms for biological effects, and the effects of ultrasound on plant, animal, human and in vitro systems. The Report provides recommendations for clinical safety and identifies research needs. In regard to human exposure, the Report specifically addresses applications of ultrasound in the areas of medical diagnosis, dentistry and physical therapy, surgery, and hyperthermia. It is intended to be a resource for health professionals and others involved with, or interested in, the use of ultrasound.

Exposure Criteria for Medical Diagnostic Ultrasound: I. Criteria Based on Thermal Mechanisms (1992)
NCRP Report No. 113 is the second in a series treating the use of ultrasound in medicine. The first report, NCRP Report No. 74, provided a comprehensive review of biological effects and mechanisms of action of ultrasound and an analysis of their implications for medical applications. This Report follows Report No. 74 with the first set of criteria for medical diagnostic ultrasound exposure—criteria based on thermal mechanisms. Report No. 113 develops quantitative guidelines based on computed upper limits to the temperature rise produced by ultrasound during medical procedures. From estimates of these upper limits for different acoustical conditions, together with information on the biological consequences of hyperthermia, result in criteria expressed in acoustical parameters. Major sections of the Report cover:

• Hyperthermia and life processes
• heat generation by ultrasound in mammalian tissues
• experimental studies of ultrasonically produced temperature elevation and associated biological effects
• the interrelationship of thermal and nonthermal ultrasonic process
• intensity and power needed in diagnostic ultrasound

Appendices to the Report provide background for calculations and information on approximations and assumptions employed in the Report.

We have a line of sight directly into the antennas. There are at least 20 monopole antennas, 20 cellular arrays, 4 satellite dishes and various GPS and other pole antennas. 100' to the west is a fire station with approx. 10 emergency service antennas. I am concerned for my family's safety! Is there an independent source for evaluation of field strength / frequency spectrum? The FCC says they don't test. The EPA says they don't test. The city says they don't test. This facility has operated un-regulated for 5 years. In that time 3 nieghbors have died unexpectedly. One neighbor has suddenly contracted Alzhiemers disease. Two years ago her husband's health rapidly degenerated. Now my wife has un-explained heart palpatations. This is just in the neighboring 8 houses. Is this common in high exposure EMF areas? We have a city council meeting next week, but in the past they have ignored my concerns. I need facts to present or I think I need to move. SLOWLY COOKING IN LAGUNA, HELP!

I have contacted the Public Service Co in our area...HA! They can't provide Gaussmeter readings for more than a month (their man recently retired and they haven't replaced him). Any clues on who else to contact for a reading? The representative I spoke with equated my concern with protection from EMT/EMR with 'those people who wear copper bracelets'. I presume Iam an EMT sensitive person (just 15 min in front of a computer makes me feel woozy and headachey) and feel it is crucial to my health to have a sense of the safety of living within a 50 ft radius of these transmission wires. Do you have a general posting site for the answers given to questions posted?

rbedard: Actually, it was my intent to have visitors help each other out, as I was too busy to "moderate" this forum. That hasn't worked out really well ... and now I have some more time to devote, so I am trying to add "answers" as best I can.

Unfortunately, the answer to your question -- What distance is safe? -- is particularly difficult to answer; we simply do not know; however, in light of current research, it makes sense to adopt (personal if not Municipal) standards of As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) for all EMF/EMR exposures.

Specifically, in relation to residential 60Hz EMF as it relates to childhood leukemia, current research suggests that you should attempt to get measured fields below 2 milligauss. Meters for measuring 60Hz are inexpensive, and readily available.

content: As a technician in power electronics new product development for the past 20 years or so, two features of the industry have become the object of speculation to me. Firstly, what could account for the high attrition rate(subjective) of individuals starting in the field? I suppose this could be normal in areas where a high level of personal interest in relatively arcane areas is required over extended periods of time. This is, in part due to the wide apparent discrepancies between theory and practical results. Secondly, why the scarcity of role models? Where were the old guys? Why were the 'survivors' so prone to excentricity that was often based on simple confusion? Is this solely the result of career pressure, age or my own naive perception? I've talked with a number of people who've 'bailed out' over the years, and the lasting impression from these individuals is that somehow they had become aware of a growing inability to perform their roles as they were accustomed to do so. They were never satisfied that they knew the reason for this, but were generally satisfied that the degeneration halted with their career change. It would be convenient to place responsibility for this phenomena onto the large near-field varying and unshielded EMF present in the design lab, but I think the same behaviour may be visible in many other occupations that have no connection to electronic power conversion/product development. Its not a new 'mad hatter' phenomenon, unless the common denominator is a much wider one. Even so, I still joke with guys that are just starting out; that they should watch out or they're likely to find themselves coming into work someday with their clothes on backwards, just like the boss.

content: There are many interesting discussions of EMF's. I have done some historical research from Alessandro Volta and Lugi Galvani to Michael Faraday. Interestingly that Faraday used a magnetic compass to discover EMF's. The earths magnetic field is about .5 gauss (correct me if I am wrong) so if a compass show somthing other than north it is being caused by a magnetic field stronger than the earths. So I created something called the "compass ring" its a ball compass about 1" in diameter and used a piece of wire to fashion a ring out of it. Originally this compass was designed to be mounted on the dash of a car with a suction cup. Whenever my skin is tingling or burning I put the compass where that sensation is and it spins. It then stops spinning and shows a direction other than north and then slowly returns to north or just keeps spinning (faster than you can count). I have a discussion in sci.physics.electromag on usenet with the subject called "spinning compass??" It has been suggested that any quick motion of the compass coulod cause it to spin, but what would that prove? As for gauss meters and the like, well they serve a purpose. But I equate it to tap water, water does not come out of the tap unless someone causes it to. I also did a survey of the electrical items in the house and monitored the watt usage from the electrical meter over a specified time and found that the house used significantly more electricity than there were things that used electricity during that time. Where was all that electricity going?

I would expect in home cordless phones to pose less of a problem than cell phones, since the signal doesn't need to travel as far. On the other hand, they are making these more and more powerful and at higher frequencies (900mH and now 2.4 gH). These newer phones come with shorter battery life and greater range, so the output may be approaching that of cell phones. I just don't know. I did come across a news story from two or three years ago about a study showing a correlation between tumor growth in rats exposed for an hour a day to radiation at 900 mH!

E-mail: debmax@muskoka.com
content: HI, I just found this list - it looks great! Just recently, we noticed that a cellular tower (Clearnet) had just been erected in very close proximity (approx.200 metres) to our rural home. No public notice had been given to the local property owners and our municipal government doesn't really seem to care about our objections and concerns and tells us that no laws have been broken and that the cellular company has complied as far as they are concerned (Here in Ontario, Canada it seems the laws are very lax-non-existant regarding cell towers). One of our neighbours decided he was going to collect $600 a month in rental income from the cellular company, put up a tower and that was it. Many of us are extremely concerned about potential health hazards. These towers seem to be springing up all over the countryside, in rural areas. We are just starting to look into this - any suggestions would be welcome on how to fight this. Any studies, data would be much appreciated on the health hazards (especially anything that could be easily understood by some not very technical people).

A fair paper on the topic was written in the July issue of RF Design magazine called, "Health aspects of low-level exposure to RF electromagnetic waves". I have not checked, but www.rfdesign.com may be your link for a reprint. I work as a RF telemetry link designer for pacemakers and implantable cardiac defibrillators and have extensive practical knowledge of the susceptibilities of humans and implantable medical devices. In general, the questions posed above regarding cell phone exposure and pacemaker susceptibility are low risk for personal health problems. However, I would be more concerned for those persons exposed to very high current 60 Hertz fields near their beds; where they spend a good amount of time in that location. I will take questions on an e-mail basis, but I can not claim to be the expert on all these matters.

But I don't see anyone saying: "let's shut down the PC companies of he world!" I find it ironic that while people complain about the ill health effects from EM fields, they give little thought to how much EMF they really recieve in one day from common sources. Before you complain about the cell towers (that you all need in order to let the 'soccer mom's' get a loaf of bread on the way home, via cell phone) you should look for other sources of the ill health effects that you experience. If you want the cell ltowers taken down, that's fine. Just don't expect to be able to use your cell phone. Oh by the way......if it's EM fields you're worried about, toss out your electric blanket before you toss out your cell phone.

Meanwhile, the damage is caused constantly and by the time any changes happen ( if ever ) we might cross the point of no return in genetic damage and environmental problems. The point I am trying to make is that it seems logical, while fighting for a change in attitudes, also work diligently on protective measures. A few products I saw advertised, are outrageously expensive and probably out of reach for many. Can someone ( I, personally, am as far from the technical side as anybody can be :( ) with the knowledge of existing materials and their producers, compile a reference sheet for those of us who do not have a clue? There must be many shielding materials that are used in the industry that could be useful for people trying to protect themselves and their families. I would greatly appreciate such information, and I am sure many others will as well. Thank you.

I´ve tried to look into the field of RF radiation to find references to RFID systems, but the only stuff I an get is on mobile phones, radio transmitters etc. Assuming I can find out certain technical details about the system such as power density, SAR, etc how can I assess how safe it is? All the various guide lines are difficult to read and there is nothing much about duration, which will normally be short for passing through these fields. The RFID system to be installed will be for entering and exiting the buildings and canteen. What is particularly worrying is that the responders work at 2.4 GHz, which sounds frighteningly high to me. They also quote 1.6W/m-sq which I assume to be the power density but which they call ´starting energy´. Perhaps I´m worrying about nothing and the whole thing is safe. Regards, Dave

The 2.4 GHz ISM (Industrial, Scientific and Medical) band is governed by Part 15 of the FCC rules and is home to a variety of low power RF devices including cordless phones. Anyone who owns one of these appliances will receive far more exposure than you will from the RFID system. The ID badges you will wear are probably passive devices, so you won't be in close contact with the source anyway. Most of the literature does concern itself with high voltage power lines and cell phones but all these frequencies including 2.4 GHz are classified as non ionizing radiation. I can't call myself an expert on the physical effects of non ionizing radiation but I have followed developments in this field for many years. So far I haven't seen anything that convinces me that there are negative physical effects from cell phones, cordless phones, garage door openers, microwave ovens, etc.

I have not seen such a document among the myriad publications on the topic available on the several Web sites devoted to the topic (although I have not looked very hard). The comparisons that are needed include incident radiation intensities over the relevant bandwidths on surfaces normal to the direction of radiation at various distances from the sources, and values for the absorption rates by biological material for the various frequencies (although the latter data are probably readily available elsewhere). Examples of the kinds of sources and distances are the following. TV screen 0.3m to 5m Cellphone 0.01m to 0.1m Cellphone transmission tower 2m-100m Refrigerator 0.3m to 5m Microwave oven 0.3m to 5m Unobstructed sunlight at various latitudes solar elevation. Transmission lines at various voltages 2m-100m Bedside radio 0.3m to 5m Electric blanket .... I realise that the spectra of these sources are very diverse - cellphones have a sharp peak at a few gigahertz, sunlight has a broad spectrum and so on, but at least some feeling Given this information, and making the reasonable and rational assumptions that (i) at any frequency, biological effects monotonically increase with radiation intensity, and (ii) low level narrow bandwidth radiation may have unknown effects, it should be a fairly straightforward task to determine where any danger might lie, and therefore where effort should be invested in further investigation. I thought something was wrong with the TV until I realized that my computer monitor had the same occasional problem. I later noticed that when the problem occurred, it happened to both screens simultaneously. I remembered in college that a professor of mine once took a magnet and put it to the side of the television, causing all of the colors to distort and bleed. Is my television doing this because of EMF passing through my apartment? There is some kind of electrical utility station across the street, probably about 500' away. I was wondering if it's possible if the utility station is causing this and how I could measure any EMF that might be present. I was also wondering if this effect might simply be caused by some kind of brownout condition. Both picture tubes are Sony tubes and might behave similarly in when voltage-starved due to a brownout. If this was the case then I could stop worrying about EMFs as the cause. Any theorizing would be appreciated...

Does anyone know of any "low emf telephones" or low emf headphones?

content: A 120' cell phone "monopole" is being proposed in my residentially zoned neighborhood. On the plot plan, it looks like it will be about 5 or so acres away from our property, into a fairly dense wooded area. I am less concerned about the aesthetics, as it will be seemingly unobtrusive. I am, however, concerned about the radiation. The town hearing is in a week and I would like to go armed with information - case studies, if possible. The Board of Health has confirmed that the radiation emitted will be well within acceptible levels, however I am skeptical. I believe money talks (and keeps people quiet). Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

content: There is a Utility Company Called SE2, NESCO from Seattle. That wants to build a 230kv line from Sumas Wash, USA to Abbotsford BC, Clayburn substation. At first they were going to build overhead lines. Now, they say they will bury some of the line. My first question is..Is the EMF/Magnetic field still harmfull if the line is buryed? Some of our residents in our townhouse complex will be 50 to 100 feet from the line. We would be about 200 feet. There is also alot of other houses ajacent to the route, with in 100 feet anyway. Also what if they did not bury it. How far should someone be from the line? (In Washington state they will only alow them to build 115kv lines near populated area's... Odd how Canada has no such rules!) Thank you for your time! Regards: Rod Silliphant Abbotsford BC,Canada

Sage's matrix is not very long and lists only studies that support the EMF hazard arguments. There doesn't appear to have been much peer review for most of those studies either. Also, it should be noticed that Sage Associates is in the business of "EMF hazard consulting," which gives them a vested interest in encouraging people to be paranoid about electricity and radio/tv transmitters. A lot of fluff here on your site. It looks like you put a lot of effort into it. Too bad there isn't much substance.

content: I was walking my dog late last night around 11:00 p.m. and I walked up a side street which leads to an fairly wide strip of land (the strip being about the width of four households. The strip of land has high tension wires/poles which stretch north/south for as far as you can see. The poles/wires have been there for many years. Residential houses are built directly on the east and west sides of this area. I was amazed to hear what sounded like mini sparking and/or crackling noises coming from up around the wires at the top of the poles. I am wondering whether the intensity of the current flowing through the aforementioned high tension lines is safe to the surrounding homeowners. I would like to reserach statistics on the number of cancer cases in the zip code area where I live, however, I am not sure how to proceed. Does anyone have any suggestions and/or comments about what the sounds I heard and/or where to begin researching statistics?

E-mail: mcthom@earthlink.net
content: I am pregnant and am obviously concerned about neighborhood EMFs - I will be at the house all day. I have done a fair amount of research on EMFs the last few days but every study or link (even the EPA) barely touch on neighborhood distribution lines. A house we are considering buying is on a corner where a rather large distribution line is located just feet from the house, about 20 feet down from that line is a transformer pole - still 10 or so feet from the house, and from the transformer, power lines cut low over our back yard. So essentially, the house is surrounded on three sides by power lines. I have been reading that either of these poles, especially the step-down transformer can actually harbor more EMFs than those coming out of a sub-station. I am having someone to come and do a reading from the power company. Once I get the readings, how can I determine what is safe? Everything I read is so non-committal, I just want a helpful guide for these readings. Any comments and thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Responses can be sent to me at my email address.

content: PHYSICISTS - Do you have an answer for this anomaly? I have an e-mag detector, which I used to discover that my basement suite is absolutely loaded with e-mag. pollution. My suspicion is that it is geopathic in nature, as the highest readings (and I mean high - they go off the scale) show up when I point the device towards the earth. My dilemma is this - the readings are usually off the scale, except once there was a miraculous drop to near zero. I eventually discovered that this phenomenon occurs every time the furnace (it is a natural gas furnace) clicks on, and remain low up until a few seconds before it clicks off. What's going on? The reason I'm so desperate to find the answer, aside from the fact that I've been driven to near insanity living here and can't ever get a good night's sleep and don't have the option of moving, is that, if I could find out what mechanism is neutralizing the e-mag. fields, I could potentially utilize that knowledge to keep it neutralized permanently, and more importantly, this info. could be used to help everyone be free of this danger. Please - does anyone have an answer? E-mail me: Matthew Popoff - mattpopoff@hotmail.com
